I’ve been hooked on Farmer Fred’s friendly tone and informative advice for years through both of his radio shows. Am so happy and relieved that he continues doling out the tips and tricks through his podcast. Admittedly I’m not a very accomplished gardener (I’m pretty lazy by nature) but FF makes me believe I can grow anything, and gives me hope that this year I’ll get more than 3 tomatoes. He always has great guests and I just plain enjoy listening!

Like to hear your response on best type of paint mix to protect trees for sunscald. In past I have made my own whitewash using mixture of salt and type S lime and cover the lower trunk of tree. I never liked idea of using latex paint. However, I listen to your show about salt in many type of fertilizers. So, what is an alternative? What do big orchards use? What options are there. Like your show. Regards

I have learned some great tips and heard things explained on this podcast in ways I haven’t heard other places. For example: everyone says and I know that organic fertilizers “feed the soil” whereas synthetic chemical-based fertilizers feed the plants. But I’ve never heard this explained in a practical what-does-that-really-mean level until one of Fred’s latest episodes. Strongly recommend!

I have learned so much already from Farmer Fred that I didn’t think there was more to learn. I love that each episode is about 30 minutes, perfect for a drive somewhere. Thank you for a great podcast!

I have been trying for weeks to download this podcast to no avail, any help would be greatly appreciated. I use iTunes on a MacBook Air. PS: the other two podcasts that I download, Get Growing & KFBK Garden show, have no issues downloading. Thanks a bunch, hope you have a suggestion.

Will you please address the mystery seeds being mailed to American’s. This is super scary and I believe you can help prevent something awful since you have the target audience. Thanks in advance!

I love listening to your podcast and learn something every time I do.
I’m a novice grower and my kids (2&5) and I love seeing our things grow. We check them every day
Listening to you has made me realize that we have a lot to learn but as we are currently looking for a new home with land we are excited to continue learning from you

Like a lot of people, podcasts and gardening have become two passions during quarantine.
I was missing our classroom garden with my sweet students and decided to learn more so I can teach them.
When I saw the title of this podcast, I was a little unsure. I wondered if I would learn anything from someone geared more toward farming (read big and lots of materials) for my few pots in a very suburban area.
Then I realized he was in California and was concerned that he was going to be some out there hippie dude.
But I turned it on anyway.
I can admit when I am wrong. This is often the most helpful, informative and clearly presented 60 minutes of my week. (Two 30ish minute shows). He gives a lot of practical info on everything from problems to successes. Each episode is jam packed with info but never overwhelming. He has a great voice and is very clear. He asks Claire questions of his guests and brings on people who are very knowledgeable but if not also appeared on every other podcast.
I am truly glad I listened. You probably will be too.

I get so many questions from friends now that they’re all taking up gardening during COVID. Your beginners series are easy for me to forward to them based on their questions! And I have to admit, even after gardening for years, and listening to your show for many years- I still continue to learn new things!

Thanks for the ampleharvest.org interview where I found a pantry near my home. They’ll be getting my excess zucchini, patty pan squash and cucumbers next week.

Farmer Fred is doing the gardening podcast that you wished you’d listened to first. Such a soothing voice that spews facts not fiction. He brings on the most incredible guests that are definitely SME’s (that’s Subject Matter Expert). Give Farmer Fred a try he’ll be your forever go to guy.

Seriously, how I wish that I discovered this podcast before the coronavirus lockdown! That would not only give me (who doesn’t want to rely on meat for protein intake) a fantastic alternative to get daily protein but also a wonderful way to keep my sanity from all the boredom during the quarantine.
If I learned anything from this pandemic, it would be-less pollution, more greens, get growing with Farmer Fred and make this planet a better place for all of us!

The best gardening podcast I’ve found! Very informative and still entertaining. He always has the best guests for a good variety of interests.
I have listened to his other podcasts and radio shows for years and have learned so much! He has inspired me to apply for the Placer County Master Gardener program for 2021.
